Power BI Weekly Issue 187: 20th December 2022

No better way to finish the year than with a feature summary for December. The window functions I mentioned in the 176th edition have now been officially released, being announced in the feature summary blog under the "Making it easier to do comparison calculations" heading. To recap, this includes three new core functions, INDEX, OFFSET and WINDOW. I recommend following Jeffrey Wang's blog series Introducing DAX Window Functions to take a deeper dive into the new functionality. The other main difference in this month's Power BI Desktop release that many of you may have already noticed, is that Slicer type formatting has moved to the Format Pane. I think it makes sense, but will take some getting used to!

Elsewhere this week, the Power BI team has shared a blog taking a Deep dive into Optimize ribbon and streamline your Power BI authoring (which was released in last month's Power BI Desktop update), Christian Wade and Ogbemi Ekwejunor-Etchie have discussed the Roadmap for Semantic Models: from Azure AS to Power BI Premium, and Chris Webb has provided his opinion on the question Is Power BI A Semantic Layer?. I agree, by the way!

Finally, I'd again like to thank each and every one of you for being a subscriber to Power BI Weekly. Another year has been and gone, and what remarkable strides Power BI as a platform has made.

Happy holidays to all (where relevant!) See you in January.
