Power BI Weekly

Issue #94 - 26th January 2021

Again, Pretty much radio silence again from the Power BI team, but that's to be expected in January. Next month we'll be hit with a few of the year's first updates - maybe they'll start flowing through next week. In any case, this week Paul Turley has continued the comprehensive "Doing Power BI the Right Way" series, talking about an often confusing decision Power Query in Dataflows or Power BI Desktop? Along related lines, Imke Feldmann has provided a Workaround to connect to Power BI dataflows from Power Query in Excel, since the native Dataflows (nor ADLS Gen2 connector) isn't available in Excel. Elsewhere, Alberto Ferrari has introduced the new DAX DEFINE COLUMN statement in queries, taking us through a number of useful examples to get us going, and Pragati Jain has described how to Schedule Automated Data Exports from Power BI using a simple R/Python Script, so that your data is exported when your datasets are refreshed up in the Power BI Service.
