Power BI Weekly

Issue #353 - 14th April 2026

Again, no official announcements this week, but plenty of interesting content. First of all, one of this week's articles pointed me towards the pbi-cli: AI-powered modeling and reporting for Power BI, a very impressive-looking tool built by Mina Saad to use Claude to perform a wide array of modelling and reporting operations through the command line. Quite a few parallels with the pbir-cli tool I shared last week (both CLI tools to achieve AI-assisted Power BI development), but different in how the tools are composed and some of the operations they offer. But it's great to see the options becoming available to the rest of us in the community that can benefit from these open tools. I, for one, am very grateful!

Elsewhere this week, and keeping on the "open tooling" theme, Juliana Smith has shared a couple of really useful accessibility tools. First of all, Juliana's shared a Power BI Luminance & Contrast Checker, providing a few Power Query & DAX queries to help you check your WCAG 2.x contrast ratios directly in your report in Power BI. The other tool is a Power BI Alt Text UDF Library, which Juliana refers to in the article Power BI & European Accessibility Act Part 1 : Implementing Alternative Text - a great way of adding more structured and informative Alt Text to your Power BI visuals.

Finally, and aside from "tooling" (but not aside from AI, naturally), Atikant Jain has shared a good presentation on Power BI Security - Complete Guide: RLS, OLS & TMDL Manual + AI Methods, defining each topic and demonstrating how to implement using both TMDL and Claude.
