Power BI Weekly

Issue #299 - 11th March 2025

No Power BI-specific announcements this week, other than the fact it's the Last Chance to Enter the Power BI DataViz World Championships (ending Friday evening/Saturday morning depending on your time zone). This final week's theme is "Nature & Climate", so if you have any related content then what's the harm in submitting them? We do have one semi-relevant Fabric update this week, which is a summary of the Fabric Admin API updates and upcoming definition changes, with the most interesting update (IMO) being the ability to Update any tenant setting programmatically.

Elsewhere this week, Jess has continued her blog series with the article Encoding categorical data for Power BI: Using label encoded data vs one-hot encoded data in Power BI showing the storage and performance improvements you can make to your semantic model with some simple transformations. Stephanie Bruno has highlighted that Basic Power BI accessibility is easier than you think and references a community tool called Power BI Accessibility Checker that you can use to test out your reports. Finally, Mike Honey has stumbled upon an interesting PBIP fx hack: dynamic expressions for properties - everywhere! which opens up many potential (though presumably "unsupported") customizations previously not possible on your report.
