Power BI Weekly

Issue #283 - 5th November 2024

One announcement from the Fabric side this week which will be relevant to some Power BI users - that's the New Features and Enhancements for Virtual Network Data Gateway, including the max cluster size being increased from 5 to 7. Elsewhere this week, Paul Turley is back with a refreshed article on Doing Power BI the Right Way in 2025 (and the last part of 2024 I should think!), highlighting numerous recommended practices you should be considering when delivering your Power BI projects. Stay tuned to Paul's blog for more detailed write-ups on those topics. Touching on one of those topics, Jon Stjernegaard Vöge has written about The simplest Version Control setup possible for Power BI: Sharepoint/OneDrive + automatic publishing, a technique that we are huge proponents of here at endjin - enabling a business-user friendly way of achieving version control in Power BI. Finally, Pat Mahoney has shared a useful video titled EAGER to Optimize IF and SWITCH measures?, walking through common ways of improving the performance of these conditional expressions, including explaining the lesser-known IF.EAGER function that you can often use directly in place of normal IF statements.
