Power BI Weekly

Issue #205 - 2nd May 2023

It's been a relatively quiet edition this week, although the only announcement that's arrived is particularly cool. We can now Create Power BI reports in Jupyter Notebooks for your live visualization needs. This is really enabling functionality, and I think features like these will start to shape a new hybrid persona bridging the Data Science / Data Engineering / BI developer spaces. If you have Data Scientists in your org for whom Power BI is not currently part of their toolset, then you might like to ease them into the tool with a feature like this. Similarly, if you have Data Engineers that dabble in both notebooks and building BI reports, try to figure out where/if this functionality could assist them in their work. Maybe it's to try to understand key entities they'll need to create in their data model before they start building the star schema, or to get inspiration about how best to visualize certain bits of data. In any case - it's a very exciting feature.

Elsewhere this week - a couple of data modeling blogs. Antriksh Sharma has described the battle between the ALL Functions vs Security in DAX and what you need to be aware of, and Gilbert Quevauvilliers has described How to modify Dynamic Format Strings in Power BI, as the current Desktop UI doesn't provide an easy to do this.
