Power BI Weekly Issue 203: 18th April 2023

Another year, another "market leader" classification for Power BI in the 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Analytics and BI Platforms. Certainly an impressive feat to get this classification year after year. As ever, a massive "well done" to the Power BI team! And why not backup that announcement with a new Power BI April 2023 Feature Summary. Starting with the first thing they mentioned: "Power BI Desktop is fully supported on Azure Virtual Desktop (formerly Windows Virtual Desktop) and Windows 365." - I'm not entirely sure what level of support there was before since I don't use Azure Virtual Desktop (maybe support for the application was in preview?) but anyway, this is pretty cool. It could be a viable alternative method to give your MacOS/Linux users access to Power BI Desktop without them having to run virtualization software on their machine, which is neat. As for the other announcements, there are now Dynamic format strings for measures, a couple of tooltips updates (auto-scale in Desktop and enhanced tooltips in the Mobile app), and there have been updates to some of the DAX Windowing functions, which Jeffrey Wang has written about in the blog: RANK, ROWNUMBER, and Enhanced ORDERBY. Finally, I thought I'd point out Chris Webb's blog describing how to Disable Filter Pane Aggregates In Power BI (which is particularly useful for DirectQuery datasets). I did not know you could do that.
