Power BI Weekly

Issue #201 - 4th April 2023

Just a single announcement this week - a small (yet mighty) feature has landed, which is the ability to Pin workspaces in the Power BI Service. Finally! Thanks to the Power BI team for listening to the community on this one. Elsewhere this week, Matthew Adams has elaborated on the importance of Asking the right questions to get your data insights projects back on track. In it, Matthew shares a new (free) high-level Power BI Maturity assessment we've devised at endjin to help you understand your organization's maturity based on three fundamental activities: understanding who is involved, how they derive value from your Power BI activities, and how they communicate with each other. Do take a read through that blog if you're interested!

I'll finish off the editorial with a couple of "programmatic" tips this week: Gilbert Quevauvilliers has highlighted the Resolve-PowerBIError PowerShell cmdlet in the blog Troubleshooting Power BI PowerShell issues to view the error (which, despite being very familiar with the various Power BI SDKs, I'd somehow not come across before). This, unsurprisingly, provides a bit more information about errors that other PowerShell Power BI cmdlets may throw, which, by themselves, tend to be very vague. The other blog I'd like to highlight is written by Nandan Hegde, who has spoken about Overcoming Data Size / Row Limitations of Power BI REST API for Automated Data Extraction from Dataset. If you need to extract more than 15MB / 100,000 values, this is well worth a read.
