Power BI Weekly
Issue #159 - 31st May 2022
If you thought last week's edition contained all the announcements - you were wrong. So much more news came, such as:
- Composite models on SQL Server Analysis Services
- What's new in SQL Server 2022 Analysis Services CTP 2.0
- Power BI Report Server May 2022 Feature Summary
- On-premises data gateway May 2022 update is now available
alongside my particular favourites: the general availability of automatic aggregations, including integration with TOM and TMSL and incremental automatic aggregations training, and the general availability of the ExecuteQueries REST API, including ExecuteQueries support in Power Automate(!!). And last but certainly not least, away from the "official" announcements, Mathias Thierbach has announced preview support for Dataset deployment support in pbi-tools, including support for automatic refresh, Power Query parameters and more. See the recording from last week's Power BI Manchester meetup to see the new functionality in action.
Naturally, you'll notice that this week's edition contains a lot of content about Datamarts. Be sure to take a read through these to get some more views about the new feature, which (arguably) contain more interesting insights than the official blogs - like the fact that the automatic dataset that's generated is actually connecting to the SQL DB using DirectQuery, and that multiple users can edit the Datamarts UI at the same time.
